"Let me get some more of that"
Elhadji Ba is charged with sexual battery with restraint. The alleged incident occured at the Dollar Tree store in Myrtletown Shopping Center early morning at the back of the store by the freezers.
Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads showed jurors surveilance footage from the morning of July 16, both outside and inside the store while she went over facts, evidence presented and the law.
The contrast between Ba and the alleged victim, Jasmine Covington, in height and build is obvious.
Ms. Eads said that morning Covington left Starbucks and went to the dollar store to do errands. A stranger "confronted" her. "At first he gave Covington compliments, she was polite, then felt uneasy." Covington described Ba following her around the store, used the word "stalkerish." She tried to make her way to the front of the store.
"After repeated rejection of her advances," Ba gave Jasmine a hug. "She pushed him away" and told him to leave her alone. Ba still followed her.
Ba said "something to the effect, ' Let's make out' and 'I will get the keys to the bathroom'."
Ba asked to touch Covington's breasts. Ms. Eads brought up Covington's testimony stating this was "invasion of my body" and "personal space."
Covington stepped back and Ba "grabs her, wraps his arms around her, lifts up her t-shirt and sucks and bites her breasts."
Covington managed to get away and found an employee, Samantha Ruiz. Ba followed her and said, "Let me get some more of that."
Ruiz notified the assistant manager Shaun Arrington who called EPD and they were there within minutes.
Ms. Eads said Ruiz's testimony and that of Amber Flowers, a family nurse practioner, who testified about examining Covington's injuries at the ER corroborate Covington's testimony.
