Another fire, this time near Third and A, cause of fire being investigated

On Tuesday, December 11th @ 0411 hrs, Humboldt Bay Fire was dispatched to a reported Structure Fire in the area of W. Third St. and A St. Humboldt Bay Fire responded with 3 Engines, 1 Truck and 1 Chief Officer.

The first arriving unit located an exterior fire in the alley to the rear of building @ 55 W. Third St. The fire was burning on a loading dock against the building and extending up an exterior wall. Upon further investigation it was determined the fire was actively extending to the interior of the building.

The building is large commercial warehouse structure that was unoccupied at the time of the fire and was secured with plywood over all doors and windows. The roll up doors to the building were also secured and bolted shut in place. The first arriving units attacked the fire from the exterior while other units forced entry into the building through the secured doors and roll-up doors.

Crews then made an interior attack and completely extinguished the fire. Damage was limited a single wall and the fire did not extend to any other part of the structure. Damage is estimated at $3,000.

Firefighters remained on scene for two hours to remove smoke throughout the large building and completely extinguish the fire. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries and a human caused fire could not initially be ruled out.

EPD and HBF are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire. Humboldt Bay Fire would like the following agencies for their assistance: Arcata Fire District, Eureka Police Department and PG&E.
