State Route 36 weekend incident turned over to Criminal Investigations Division

HCSO PIO Samantha Karges told me this morning, "The case was turned over to our Criminal Investigations Division."

HCSO Press Release (4:48 p.m.):

On Oct. 27, 2018, at about 12:30 a.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call for service from a property near Mile Marker 27 of Highway 36, in the Bridgeville area, for the report of a male subject with a possible gunshot wound and another male subject with stab wounds.

While en route to the scene, deputies located a male adult subject (Male 1) lying on the side of Highway 36, approximately two miles away from the reported property. The man was found to have multiple stab wounds. He was airlifted to an out of the area hospital in stable but critical condition.

Closer to the property, emergency responders made contact with a second male adult subject (Male 2) who had sustained a non-life-threatening injury to his head. The man was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

Upon further investigation, deputies learned that the two subjects knew each other and had been involved in a physical altercation prior to the 911 call. During that altercation, Male 1 reportedly brandished a firearm, attempting to fire the weapon at Male 2. Male 2 then reportedly stabbed Male 1 prior to fleeing into a nearby wooded area. Male 1 also fled the scene and was later contacted by deputies on Highway 36.

This incident is still under investigation. No arrests have been made at this time; however, charges are expected to be filed with the District Attorney’s Office.
