Based on feedback from readers and my own observations, these changes are effective today

Effective today, these changes are permanent. This note is Humboldt specific. Statewide and national readers can read it for content changes and information. 

The role of media is changing. Money has always been and will be a challenge to independent reporting and those with a traditional media background who utilize new media. Anyone with a cell phone today can record or report but people in power being challenged go after those who left the traditional media for freedom to report truth and hold power accountable. They go after those who have the background and the guts to investigate and know their First Amendment rights. It is a tactic as old as time.

All those regular followups, extras such as court documents and records, court minutes will only be provided to subscribers, contributors and advertisers upon request.  On the blog and Facebook, I may chose to include those on a case by case basis and post by post basis if it is convenient to me. Same with links to previous coverage. Same with exclusive information I put time getting that no one else does or has access to that people have had access to for free for 12 years and will have access to with past posts.

Those people who want summaries instead of reading the blog chose Facebook and other platforms which is fine but then do not ask me questions because you are too lazy to go to the blog for details which has been told to you many times. It may be easy for you to scroll through Facebook; it is easier for me to a lot of things too instead of putting in the effort I do to provide news, information and a service that no one else does. Most of you have not, are not and do not pay me and do not pay me enough for my time.

A lot of those questions are from troll accounts and others with an agenda; not my regular readers wanting to distract and interfere with my work. That is an issue other media also face on FB and it is a con of online in and social media general.

While I have not made this change yet; making certain content subscription only is a future option and it will be with no notice for the reasons explained many times and after several reminders for years. If you don't value my time & ignore the mistreatment for years  from criminals and entrenched local powers including those on the second floor of 825 Fifth Street who target me ; why should I keep providing anything for you and for free?

I have explained many times how I update posts on court cases and why everything is going to be posted right away. I pushed myself to do that for years and now I prioritize hourly; daily. All those reasons have been clarified, elaborated and published over the years and several months. If you didn't read it; that was your choice. If you are a former or current advertiser, subscriber or contributor; you can ask, call or email because you invest and respect me and my time.

Those of you ignored reminders for years about taking advantage of me; those of you who only have interest in particular case and make demands with zero support over the years can start taking out that checkbook or pay cash. I am not responding to emails anymore about subscriptions or contributions or more information unless there is a gesture of good faith because people who are serious follow through right away. Other media use my blog for free tips and information and they follow up  after hours and days on what I report first.  

Only Ryan Burns and the Sacramento Bee have given me credit for scoops and exclusives; attorneys, their investigators; law enforcement; real estate agents and property owners and the community all read the blog, many recover property through booking photos and  information I put time in to obtain and regularly benefit and profit from my work and free content on the blog. 

You are free to go look up information yourself, show up at the Courthouse for months of continuances and sit in court for hours. You are free to go ask other local media to investigate and report on cases they ignore or do not follow regularly and they can deal with the vitriol,  abuse, darkness, and challenges I have put up for decades and the drama and craziness from criminals and their enablers and those who are exposed and held accountable.

When they do what I have consistently for 12 years and then another 10 years before reporting and take the risks I took to contribute to this community and report news they ignored and onlu I covered; then maybe I will care about anyone's two cents.

Years of abuse and hate from criminals, their families and retaliation from small, rural county where denial and lack of accountabilty has never been financially worth it and the personal and physical attacks are constant. 

If people had come through when I first started reporting on business and courts, I could have had a fancy site with tools and if people had valued and invested financially regularly instead of taking advantage of me; I wouldn't have had to spend the money I earn or save fielding off attacks on the First Amendment, my safety, petty small town tactics to impact my finances and living situation. The only reason I do not have the credit and finances I deserve is because I have integrity and I don't allow anyone to control me. 

Those who have supported me and consistently or come around lately know I am grateful.  Humboldt content and reporting in Humboldt  is no longer challenging, it is draining and it is not profitable. I don't expect anything to change after this post. It is not in my best financial interest or my advertisers to focus solely on Humboldt. 

I am not going to spend time and effort putting a contribute button when most in Humboldt have not come through for what I have invested in this community for 21 years. People have a way of finding my phone number or email when they want something or to spew misdirected anger. But when it comes to paying; crickets.

I am not an elected official, law enforcement or an attorney or  government employee who has time to troll online. I don't paid what they do; so why should I deal with problems they need to fix? Even if I did get paid money; I am not going to put with abuse and misdirected rage from miserable people in this small county that are stuck and trapped and refuse to look in the mirror and target me. 

I could not take even a few days off this past week completely but the time I did  which did not involve courthouse was peaceful and stress free. I deserve stability, peace and prosperity. If you don't want to read posts calling you make out; make changes instead of blaming me and being obstacles in anything I try to do and my efforts to move forward. Humboldt has cost me a lot and unfortunately the good does not make up for over two decades of what I cannot get back.

No one controls my moving on; moving forward and most of you in Humboldt know nothing about me. After 21 years of what Humboldt has put me through and refuses to acknowledge, I have and will do what is best for me and my safety. The rest of you can stay miserable, stay stuck and stay in denial. Those who chose to be positive, despite most of the Humboldt negative whiners who are riding on someone's coattails, are the ones who have true grit and make this community better.

The rest of the local media and their good ole boys and gals owners and publishers have lawyers, money, resources. What have they done to speak up for you, to protect you? I know who has been there for me, especially in the last year. To most of you in Humboldt, do not expect anything from me starting today, do not expect me to take risks for you, do not contact me. Either you step up starting today on your own or not; I am done waiting for most of you to do anything decent or even apologize.
