A 2023 lawsuit was filed by the Bear River Band of Rohnerville Rancheria Tribe vs California Department of Social Services, Humboldt County, Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services and Connie Beck.
There was a case management conference scheduled on 7/10 which was off calendar because the matter has been removed to federal court. No appearances by parties in Humboldt Superior Court. On 7/12, a status conference was continued by Judge Timothy Canning to 7/14/25. Again, Judge Canning stated the case has been moved to federal court so there is no reason for me to check local court minutes today. The notice of removal from Northern California was filed on April 14, 2023.
I have included some court documents. Plaintiffs allege that defendants disregarded a binding federal directive and targeted Plaintiffs for being American Indian and stripped away Plaintiff's foster care benefits prematurely."
