Is anyone besides those directly affected still interested in what is happening with convicted felon and fugitive Joseph Larue? I am not and Larue is very low priority given the numerous other court cases and news I am covering and following up on daily and regularly.
As I have been doing with all court cases for a while, some updates are added to previous posts; some are new posts as the case slowly moves through the snail process of As Humboldt Superior Court Turns.
Cases in which Mr. Joe Judge is appointed like this one have many continuances; often for the same reason as Larue. This is Larue's second court appointed attorney. He was supposed to hire a private attorney while taxpayers were paying for Ms. Andrea Sullivan who was his initial court appointed attorney.
On 7/18, in his lead 2024 case, CR2403294, there was a motion to continue his preliminary hearing. The hearing on the motion was continued by court to 7/23 because Larue did not wish to be present in court; his court appointed attorney, Mr. Judge was a no show. Judge Kaleb Cockrum thought Mr. Judge may not be present due to ongoing medical issues. The medical has been stated in other court minutes for continuances by Mr. Judge and when I have been in the courtroom to hear him say the same.
For now, preliminary hearing remains scheduled for 7/25. CR2403293 and CR2500184 are trailing.
In April, Larue filed a petition for writ of habeas corpus. On July 8, Humboldt Presiding Judge Kelly Neel signed an order requesting Humboldt County Sheriff's Office file an response to the habeas corpus petition.
7/23/25: Motion to continue preliminary hearing granted. 7/25 date vacated. Mr. Judge has a conflict. Setting of preliminary hearing and confirmation of counsel is scheduled for 7/31. CR2403293 + CR2500184 trailing.
7/31/25: Ms. Rebecca Linkous accepts appointment. CR2403294 continued to 8/6 for Determination of Conflict/Confirm Counsel/Status of discovery +Setting of preliminary hearing.
8/6/25: Ms. Linkous confirms as counsel; discovery is still needed. Prelim in CR2403294 scheduled for 9/30. CR2403293 + CR2500184 trailing.
9/30/25: Preliminary hearing continued by defense. Setting of preliminary hearing scheduled for 10/14.
10/14/29: Setting of preliminary hearing continued to 10/29.
