Rory Kalin's attorneys move for a new trial against Luke Brownfield, Marek Reavis and PD's office

Co-defendant Humboldt Superior Court Judge Gregory Kreis who is on the ballot for the March 5, 2024 election may have settled his lawsuit right before election. A request for dismissal regarding has been filed by former Deputy Public Defender Rory Kalin's attorneys which I previously reported. If Kreis thinks that he is now out of the spotlight; he is mistaken. More eyes are on him, Humboldt Superior Court, Mendocino Judge Ann Moorman, the Commission on Judicial Performance.

The intention to move for new trial is against co-defendants County of Humboldt Public Defender's office, Public Defender Luke Brownfield and former Public Defender Marek Reavis. The County has hired Sacramento firm Angelo, Kilday and Kilduff.

I had previously spoken with Kalin's attorneys in December 2023 about the motion for summary judgement granted for Brownfield and Reavis. "The Court’s ruling on the Defendants’ Motion for Summary Judgment is extremely disappointing and something we obviously disagree with.  We are currently exploring all potential options and will continue to support Mr. Kalin in his pursuit of justice," Mr. Mr. Johnny Rundell,  Kalin's primary attorney at LA's Hershey Law firm told me. I had also written a post about whether Kalin would get a fair trial in Humboldt County which was shared in LA.

There are court documents confirming the friendship between Kreis and the Brownfields. Kreis has continued socializing with Public Defenders after being a Judge.

Kalin's attorneys filed the document about their intention to move for a new trial on 1/25. Only the notice has been entered in e court. I have contacted Mr. Johnny Rundell,  Kalin's primary attorney at LA's Hershey Law firm.

Maybe if Rexy, Virginia and Ryan had listened to me years ago about the courts including not appointing Luke Brownfield as Public Defender, taxpayers could have avoided this lawsuit and legal expenses. Then again, the Humboldt BOS does not listen, loses or settles lawsuits and the taxpayers foot the bill. I don't see all the conservatives supporting Rex who has endorsed Kreis crying and whining about the taxpayers subsidizing poor decisions by the BOS which includes former and current Humboldt County Supervisors.
