Defense hires expert in murder, torture trial and files a 995 motion

Attempted murder, mayhem and torture suspect Vaughn Pernell Jones jury trial scheduled for January 16 has been vacated. Deputy Public Defender Adrian Kamada's motion to continue was granted by Judge Steven Steward yesterday. Defense is seeking an expert. This is yet another delay or continuance in Jones' case.

I had been adding updates to my last post but decided to do this post because in addition to the pre-trial on 1/22, there is a hearing on the defense 995 motion. Trial confirmation is on 5/6; jury trial 5/13. For this hearing, Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees appeared on the case. Jones has another 2023 case which is trailing.

1/22: Pre trial and 995 motion was scheduled this morning. 995 motion to 1/24 because no court reporter was available.

1/24: 995 motion continued again by stipulation to 1/26

1/26: After hearing arguments from Deputy DA Rees and Deputy Public Defender Adrian Kamada, Judge Steven Steward denied the 995 motion.

5/6: Trial confirmed, time estimate 2 to 3 weeks. Trial assignment on 5/10; jury trial on 5/13. 2022 case  is trailing.
