Is the Courthouse building opening up on May 18?

They probably wont confirm but it is worth a try. Is the Courthouse building opening up on May 18? Does the Humboldt Superior Court make an independent decision about reopening courtrooms and access to the second floor of the Courthouse? Do cities decide when to reopen City Hall and their government buildings?

I have emailed Humboldt County Sheriff William Honsal, OES' Ryan Derby, DHHS media,Humboldt Superior Court CEO Kim Bartleson, Humboldt County Supervisors Rex Bohn and Virginia Bass as well City of Eureka Acting City Manager Pam Powell.

Ms. Bartleson responded, "At such point as the courthouse reopens and the existing COVID restrictions continue, the court floor will be closed and the court will continue conducting remote video hearings.  We are expanding calendars to include civil, probate and family.  Any public hearings will be broadcast in the same manner we are broadcasting public criminal trials.

I will defer further responses to others."

Ms. Powell said, "Eureka City Hall is open by appointment only and will continue to operate in that manner for the foreseeable future."

In the daily video to media, Sheriff Honsal said the May 18 day "is a possibility." That date has "been kicked around but we don't have a specific date yet." The courthouse could be opening up in two weeks.
