Why did Susan Seaman and Kim Bergel choose HUE Life?

Even though, I did not ask City Clerk Pam Powell to respond, she sent me the following responses to my questions regarding the recruitment firm and process. I appreciate her timely response and as always providing the public information.

Mayor Susan Seaman and Councilmember Leslie Castellano responded around 10 a.m. I will add their responses shortly. It is a busy news morning.

Pam Powell's responses:

Hue Life has facilitated the Strategic Visioning process for the last three years.  When City Manager Greg Sparks announced his retirement, Mayor Seaman and Councilmember Bergel were selected to begin the recruitment process.  I sent out requests for proposals to the following firms:

Peckham & McKinney

HUE Life

Avery & Associates

Bob Murray

Once the proposals were received, Councilmember Bergel, Mayor Seaman, Human Resources Director Will Folger, City Manager Greg Sparks and myself reviewed the 4 proposals.  As a group we choose Peckham & McKinney and HUE Life as the top two proposals.  Councilmember Bergel and Mayor Seaman both choose HUE Life as the top firm.  The recruitment firm works directly with the council.

Council has been involved in the process and has approved of each step.

Mr. Fursman did a nationwide recruitment with primary advertising done on ICMA which is the lead organization for all City Manager professionals.  In addition, it was advertised in California City News.

Gregg Foster, RRDEC Executive Director will be leading the tour and Captain Brian Stephens will be the driver.  All six candidates will be riding together and I’m sure that there will be some topics that the two internal candidates will weigh in on as it will fall within their purview. The tour will begin at City Hall, travel along the City limits, brief stop at the Zoo, brief stop at WWTP and the last stop will be at Betty Chinn’s day center.  The public meeting will begin at 5 pm, allow some time for candidates to mingle with the public after which each candidate will have 5 minutes to introduce themselves to the assembled group.  Cards will be on hand for the public to complete with their thoughts on who they would like to see as the next City Manager.  Those cards will be given to the Council when they deliberate.
