Eureka Mayor Susan Seaman says City Council was aware of relationship between Sparks snd HueLife

Eureka Mayor Susan Seaman and Councilmember Leslie Castellano responded to my questions about the recruitment firm and process for the next City Manager.

Councilmember Leslie Castalleno said, " I was out of town during the initial meeting with Richard and we were not able to talk before the final 10 candidates were selected. There was a female candidate in the top 10."

Mayor Seaman's responses:

"They are and have been colleagues. Yes. We are aware and have worked with him before ourselves. Pam Powell provided more information about the process."

"It’s quite possible the candidate has not worked for a female majority Council. I would imagine it’s much like working for any council made up of independent people."

"The Council seems to be happy with this process.  It is very similar to every other recruitment process proposed, with some added community engagement not included in other proposals."

"No, I don’t think it’s weird that the majority of final candidates are from the City where the application was filed. Given your figure of 50%, however, you could say 50% of the final candidates were from Eureka and ANY other location that the candidates came from. 50% were from Eureka and Oregon. 50% were from Eureka and Georgia. And, 50% were from Eureka and Texas."

"Yes. We pay recruiters to make judgements. Every other recruiter would do the same thing and help select based on criteria determined by the Council."
