Eureka City Hall open for business, PGE charging station in Rohner's Park


Eureka City Hall will be open for business Monday. They were during the last shutoff too.
Starting Sunday, charging stations will be available at the Eureka Muni from 10 a.m to 4 p.m.

PG and E plans to open resource centers, no information yet on where in Eureka.

According to the City of Fortuna  PG&E will be setting up a Kiosk outside the Fireman’s Pavilion in Fortuna’s Rohner Park as early as this evening. There will be charging stations for the public as well as information.

The City of Eureka, Eureka Police Department and Humboldt Bay Fire are preparing for the shutdown of PG& E power to Humboldt County.  It is expected that the City and surrounding area will begin losing power on Saturday, October 26, 2019 mid-afternoon.

A weather wind event is expected to begin at 6 PM on Saturday and the power shut off will occur prior to the start of the weather event.

The weather event is expected to last until Monday, October 28th at 2 PM.  Restoration of power could take up to 48 hours to restore.

Residents are advised to prepare for the outage as we may be without power for several (4 – 5) days.

Preparations include: • Fill your gas tanks • Have emergency cash available • Stock up on medications • Have a battery-operated light and extra batteries • Charge up all devices and backup power sources • Gather a stock of non-perishable food, water and ice Regular City of Eureka operations will continue and additional Public Safety and Public Works crews will be staffed to handle operations as needed.


During this power shutdown, residents are advised to the following:

• City Hall, Eureka Police, the Zoo and Humboldt Bay Fire Offices and all Parks will be open regular hours

• The Adorni, Wharfinger and bathroom facilities at Truesdale and West Del Norte Streets are closed

• Public water and sewer services will be maintained. All residents using a private sewer pressure system should be aware that you will experience a loss of pumping during the power outage.  It is advised that you restrict sewer use during this time, unless you have the capability to power your sewer pump.

• Non-working traffic signals are four way stops. Motorists must stop and proceed once it is safe to continue.

• Street lights are out – use caution at night as it is extremely dark and difficult to see pedestrians

• Motorists should drive slowly and defensively.  Avoid driving through busy areas due to loss of traffic signals unless absolutely necessary.  • Only call 9-1-1 with in the event of a true emergency – Please don’t use 9-1-1 as a number to call to ask questions.

The Eureka Municipal Auditorium will be open with power strips available to residents to charge their cellular devices.  The Muni will open beginning on Sunday from 10AM to 4PM and operate daily during the power outage.

Those wishing to charge their devices, must bring a power charging cord.  Limits may be placed on the duration of charge depending on users.

Department of Health and Human Services will be working with HBF to open the Bode Classroom at 3030 L Street to operate a “Medical Equipment Charging Station” from 10 AM to 6 PM.

PG&E will be opening 2 Community Resource Centers beginning on Sunday.  Those locations will be announced later.
