$1 million in grant funding available statewide for untested sexual assault evidence

The Untested Sexual Assault Evidence Grant Program (USAEG) administered by the California Department of Justice (DOJ) provides funding for city and county agencies to conduct audits of their untested sexual assault evidence kits.

The grant is intended to assist city and county agencies with compliance with the recently enacted Assembly Bill (AB) 3118. A total of $1 million in grant funding is available statewide.
Interested agencies are encouraged to learn more about the USAEG Program, the eligibility criteria, and the Request for Applications (RFA) process. The grant application period is now open and will close December 14, 2018.

Eureka Police  Department's Captain Patrick O'Neill responded to my inquiry. ""We have not applied for this grant, but we have been auditing our untested sexual assault kits since well before the passing of AB 3118. We have completed the auditing of our cases from 2008 to current and are continuing this process. We were assisted in our efforts by services provided by a similar Federal program”.
