On Friday October 13, 2017 at about 12:45 p.m, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation at a motel in the 800 block of Redwood Drive in Garberville, CA.
Upon arrival, deputies contacted 52 year old Thomas Moniz. While speaking with Moniz, deputies observed a firearm and suspected drug paraphernalia inside his motel room.
It was later learned that Moniz was a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing firearms.
Upon conducting a search of the motel room deputies located, approximately 5.6 grams of suspected methamphetamine, approximately 1.4 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, a digital scale, packaging materials, a loaded 12 gauge shotgun and 12 gauge shotgun ammunition.
Based on the evidence located inside the room, Moniz was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of a hallucinogen, possession of drug paraphernalia, felon in possession of ammunition, felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance with a loaded firearm.
Moniz was later booked at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility.
