Jay Zoellners asks APD : "Was Renalyn Bobadillo stabbed at the party and if so by whom? "

Kyle Zoellner's uncle asks Arcata Police Chief Tom Chapman these questions in a letter he sent to me:

1) Was Renalyn Bobadillo stabbed at the party and if so by whom?
2) If not why did Elijah Chandler make his public statement that she was and why did Police Chief Chapman publically state “It looks like it”?
Statements from various media reports made these last few weeks:
· From Elijah Chandler: Trained in first aid, Chandler stanched his friend’s knife wounds with his T-shirt and administered mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. He and Lawson’s girlfriend, who had been stabbed at least twice on her left arm, struggled in vain for some 15 minutes or more before EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians) arrived.
· When asked if more than one person had been stabbed, Chapman said, “That’s still being investigated. I can't confirm that. It looks like it."
· Within two to four minutes, post-3 a.m., as sirens wailed in the background, police radioed that a woman had been stabbed, that multiple units were responding and that Arcata medical had been alerted.
· Shortly thereafter came word via the California Highway Patrol of “at least one report that a man was down,” evidently referring to the fatally wounded student, HSU sophomore and criminal justice major David Josiah Lawson, 19, of Perris in Riverside County. The wounded female may have been Lawson’s girlfriend, Ren, reportedly stabbed twice on one arm, according to an eyewitness.

  1. The timeline shows that Arcata Fire was on scene 7 minutes after the call and found Arcata PD doing CPR with an AED already attached, so we already know Elijah Chandler is lying. It would be nice if law enforcement put out a statement clarifying these things for the public though. They've already put all their evidence out there, so it's not like its going to affect future witness statements any more than they already have. They shouldn't have filed those charges when they did if that was a concern.

    1. I think they're waiting for the hoard to go home for the summer before releasing any timeline.

  2. Seriously, can this case be salvaged? The lack of cooperation from the people at the scene, which apparently amounted to overt hostility, means that anyone who comes forward now and says anything is going to have significant credibility issues. If for instance, a new witness implicates Zoellner, that's inherently fishy. If a new witness implicates anyone else, why didn't you speak up when Zoellner was charged? Unless the forensic evidence contributes something new, or they figure out where the knife came from and associate it with someone, this case is over.

    1. Against Zoellner, definitely not. But APD has some awfully unpopular decisions ahead as to where they need to take the investigation if they want it to progress. They could be waiting for the angry hordes to clear out per 10:31 above before making any announcements so chaos doesn't descend on Arcata.

    2. Given Chandler's track record on truthfulness so far and the fact that there has been no statement of corroboration on Bobadillo's alleged wounds (other than titty bites), I'm inclined to guess no.

Rossbacher disgraced herself when she stated through the pseudo town hall that the case had suffered a "setback." Clearing a suspect is progress in a case, unless the object is to take down that that particular suspect guilty or not. Chapman also blew it when he mentioned a possible civil rights case. There is no civil rights case against Zoellner without establishing that he attacked Lawson, which seems out the window now.

  3. Sampay posted pictures of Bobadillo's injuries on her site. Make of it what you will.

    1. There were pictures taken of Bobadilla injuries by APD at the hospital and identified in court. Sampay can post whatever she wants, is she willing to swear in court under oath? And provide verifiable evidence when these were taken and get them authenticated by law enforcement?
