Public Defender says, "We are ready" for sexually violent predator Richard Stobaugh's evidentiary hearing on possession of child porn at the State Hospital

An evidentiary hearing was scheduled today on 7/8/25 on the allegation that sexually violent predator Richard Stobaugh was in possession of child pornography at the State Hospital.

I checked Humboldt Superior Court records around 3 p.m. yesterday and there were no continuance requests filed. I spoke with Public Defender Luke Brownfield around the sane time and he said, "we are ready." Last week on 7/3/25, I had spoken with Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm and she also indicated the hearing would proceed today.

On 7/1, Humboldt Superior Court Judge Kaleb Cockrum granted my media request as well RHBB and KRCR. I did a post on that with a copy of that order. The initial requests were made by me and KRCR.

The hearing time estimate is all day. I will try and do live updates on Facebook throughout the day. The blog and other platforms will have the same live updates if I have time or just one update at the end of the day. If you do not follow my FB page, JC News, I suggest you start now.

I have no idea how many community members will show up today or if they will wait and attend on 7/14 when there is hearing on the proposed placement.

8:18: KRCR reporter.

8:22: One woman here for another case.

8:25: RHBB and LOCO's Ryan Burns just got here. Ryan submitted a media request yesterday which is not 5 days before the required deadline and no reason was given why. Judge Cockrum granted it and summarized what he addressed in his order. I am saving a copy of the LOCO order granted in case I need to attach it for any other media request to any Humboldt Superior Court Judge.

Only three other people here which includes other local media and Ginger from EPD Neighborhood watch.

9:45 a.m. Humboldt DA Stacey Eads and new Deputy DA Matt Dobie watch proceedings.
