Jason Matthew Renek was arrested by Eureka Police Department on a Ramey warrant yesterday and booked for 5 counts of PC 288(c)(1) lewd act upon a minor.
12/5: DA has charged Renek with 4 felonies. He was arraigned this afternoon.
Deputy District Attorney Jessica Watson appeared on the case for the People today at arraignment but Deputy DA Whitney Timm is the prosecutor on the case. Conflict Counsel was appointed. No bail request by the People was granted by Judge Lawrence Killoran. OR bail on 12/9; preliminary hearing is 1/22/25.
12/9: Supervised release denied by Judge Kaleb Cockrum.
1/22/25: Preliminary hearing continued by defense to 3/6/25 due to scheduling issue with Deputy Conflict Counsel David Nims & discovery.
3/6/25: Preliminary hearing continued to 4/9 because of "no judge and no courtroom; DA also requested a continuance because out of area witness unavailable.
4/9/25: Preliminary hearing continued by defense to 5/20 due to discovery.
5/20/25: Defense motion to continue preliminary hearing granted; new date is 6/12.
Renek requested a Marsden motion. His attorney is Deputy Conflict Counsel David Nims.
That motion will be heard on 6/3.
6/3/25: Renek withdraws Marsden motion. Mr. Nims has a medical appointment at 10 a.m. on 6/12 and told Judge Lawrence Killoran to leave that date as set and that he will talk with Deputy DA Whitney Timm.
6/12/25: Defense motion to continue granted; rescheduled to 6/26 with motion to compel.
6/26/25: Motion to compel withdrawn by defense; motion to continue preliminary hearing granted; rescheduled to 8/12.
