I have been covering Jesus Loza Zamacona for months. Mr. David Nims was his attorney before Ms. Rebecca Linkous. CR2300870, CR2302914, CR2302663, CR2203217 and CR2301760 are all his open cases. Ms. Linkous had filed a Romero motion which was originally scheduled for yesterday.
I covered the verdict live on November 15 in the lead case for which he was sentenced today. Attorneys were working on a global resolution of his other 4 cases. Five open cases and he was sentenced to 6 years in prison. After you add up custody credits, how much time will he actually serve? I will add court minutes for the lead case later this week.
DA Press Release (issued December 17):
Today, the Honorable Lawrence Killoran, sentenced 32-year-old Jesus Loza Zamacona, to serve 6 years in prison for two felony crimes, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felon in Possession of Ammunition, for which a Humboldt County jury convicted him last month.
In March of last year, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies Hal Esget and Jonathan Waxler conducted a parole search of LozaZamacona’s residence on Old Arcata Road wherein they discovered a loaded .38 revolver. Subsequent investigation revealed LozaZamacona, a felon from Stockton, who was released on parole to Humboldt County after serving prison time for armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, was armed at his local residence with the loaded .38 revolver shortly before the HCSO deputies arrived on scene.
Deputy District Attorney Ian Harris prosecuted the case with assistance of DA Investigators Chelsea Brawner, Marvin Kirkpatrick, and Richard Bise. Local defense attorney Rebecca Linkous represented LozaZamacona. District Attorney Stacey Eads thanks the jurors for their time and effort during the trial.
