This is the first item in California Attorney General Rob Bonta's weekly newsletter. Listed below is the Bonta's message summarizing the press release.
"This week, we filed a lawsuit against C.C.O.A. Housing Corporation for failing to fulfill its legal obligations as a charity in operating Cathay Manor, a 268-unit apartment complex for low-income seniors in downtown Los Angeles’ Chinatown. As a result of pervasive mismanagement by the charity and its board members, folks from vulnerable communities who already struggle to find housing faced unsafe and unsanitary living conditions."
"My office is seeking C.C.O.A. Housing Corporation’s involuntary dissolution and the transfer of any remaining charitable assets to another charity that will actually provide the affordable, accessible, and secure housing that Californians deserve."
"Unfortunately, there are those who seek to take advantage of their status as a tax-exempt charity. As Attorney General, I’m working every day to hold deceptive organizations accountable and address the lack of affordable and dignified housing throughout the state. We’ll continue to ensure housing providers, whether they operate for profit or not, follow the law."
