It is hardly a scoop when it is on the agenda

Support all our local, small businesses but especially those brave enough to support my independent reporting which so many of you tell me you appreciate. It is a choice to do this blog and January 2025 will  be the 11th year. There are many ways to help people, use the same skills and options that are financially better for me.

It is a choice to do this blog full time and in Humboldt. Appreciation does not pay bills. Other local media have resources and funders who don't want independent reporting. The other media constantly ask you for money. How much original content are they putting out daily? CALMatters columns, jail log, you can access directly. In 10 years, I have done a few reminders on rare occasions giving many options to support this blog. Over those 10 years, I know who has been consistently there for me. And, I will be there for them.

Remember the businesses you go to and ask for donations. Remember who was there for you when you needed help. Winter in Humboldt can be tough for businesses. Every little bit of support matters.  If you want a business, a service, news and information, then support what and who you say you value.

Humboldt can be a nice place to live but it is not a fit for everyone due to many reasons and that is okay. Valid opinions by those who see the reality of Humboldt without the denial and rose colored glasses worn by the same negative, toxic, stagnant, small group of people who benefit from the status quo and have been in charge for decades; the very  same people who monopolize media, business, politics and every industry in Humboldt enabled by the online anonymous, cowardly sycophants are the problem. They drive away good people, hard workers and even tourists. These selfish people impacts the livelihood of others which includes small businesses and even established businesses.

This minority attacks and retaliates against anyone who challenges them and it shows their lack of character and selfishness. If they are so "successful", they should not be threatened by competition or the truth. This minority does not define Humboldt. Go out and support the local businesses and the people that make Humboldt unique and visitors commend. Thank the people who live here who are kind, hard working and make Humboldt safe and prosperous.

Those who support lazy reporting have made their choice. Make yours and show them they don't run your town or this county. Humboldt's present and future is every individual's responsibility.

Auditor Cheryl Dillingham's resignation is on next Tuesday's Board Agenda. It isn't a scoop, it isn't breaking news. Most people don't care.

The agenda isn't usually posted until Friday evening. Someone leaked it to LOCO a couple hours before. Who cares? There is zero interest in the story despite LOCO groupies attempts to constantly promote LOCO's flailing posts on Humboldt Reddit. So many people on yet another anonymous, irrelevant online forum and many who don't live in Humboldt anymore but pollute the local Facebook pages, Humboldt Reddit and other Humboldt online sites with the same negativity, bitterness they had when they lived here.

The trolls whose heads I live in rent free; thanks for the constant references and publicity. Some of you obviously read every post, every word.

Naming the one or two persistent trolls would just give them the attention they so desperately seek. Predictably they will snark online about me soon. They can't help but be my biggest "fans" mentioning me when it isn't even relevant. Thank you trolls for being so dedicated for two decades.

Do you want a penny for your lame, unoriginal disses? They aren't worth even that piddly amount. You trolls are good at one thing; driving away actual readers and dwindling comment sections from the very sources you desperately promote. Do you have jobs, lives or is LOCO groveling full time your entire existence? When you decide to have the guts to put your names behind your words, maybe; just maybe; they will be worth two cents. I doubt it. Your same nasty, miserable attitude and lame insults haven't changed in two decades.

If people were reading what LOCO wrote, you groupies wouldn't need to constantly promote them on Reddit or elsewhere. Some of the other local media, including myself, are busy putting out content people read and a lot more news than one BFD from an agenda.

A scoop would be why is Dillingham really leaving after two years? A scoop would be more transparency and accountability of County funds. Looking at this week's agenda, it looks like business as usual. Under closed session, I recognize several lawsuits against the County I am covering. What are those lawsuits costing taxpayers? How many of those lawsuits are being handled by lawyers who are not employed by the County? Real auditing would supply those answers without a PRA? Real journalism would be LOCO using the access they have to First District Supervisor Rex Bohn, Humboldt CAO Elishia Hayes and Deputy CAO Sean Quincey for something other than fluff, PR statements and responses.
