Yesterday, because I was at the courthouse most of the day, I got to see Humboldt OES, Sheriff William Honsal, HCSO and County of Humboldt CAO's office in action.
I want to thank Travis Smith, CAO Project Manager who took some time after taking care of business to answer some questions and clarify information about past projects. In the afternoon, I saw security get many questions about people who had stopped by to pay taxes or go to the Assessor's office. I also want to thank my District Supervisor, Natalie Arroyo, who was headed to an event later in the day for stopping and taking the time to ask how I was doing.
I saw Judge Timothy Canning, Planning and Building Director John Ford and other County department heads who had not left and were still at the Courthouse head out at lunchtime but some judges and Humboldt Superior Court administration worked all day, after employees had gone home. Private businesses had management stay while employees went home.
When I lived in Philadelphia and Atlanta, I had one on one access to elected officials and government because I was media and out and about and familiar to the community. When I first moved here, I observed the accessibility anyone has to our officials and the familiarity because we live in a small community. On days like yesterday, we should be grateful to live in a place where everybody knows your name.
