This morning before the first call, Judge Kaleb Cockrum addressed the attorneys as well as defendants and public watching via Zoom.
"Humboldt County is in the purple tier. We have been in contact with the Department of Public Health as to what that means for the courts."
"We have been authorized to do one trial. We have one trial proceeding. It took several days to get 37 jurors. People are not showing up due to the pandemic."
Judge Christopher Wilson took over trial assignment for certain cases. Judge Cockrum is disqualified on those cases as several of the defendants are his former clients.
Judge Wilson is currently presiding over the Anaya trial in Courtroom 1. That trial is supposed to end February 1; he said it could end sooner. Just from today's trial assignment, two cases have been continued to trail Anaya. Those cases are Abarr and David Anderson. Both, one or none may resolve by the 25th.
