Judge Cockrum, attorneys and court staff worked through lunch to complete trial assignment due to the impact of COVID 19

Jeff Tsarnas' jury trial for hit and run was scheduled for January 25.

Judge Kaleb Cockrum, attorneys and court staff worked through the lunch hour until 1:30 p.m.

The case was continued over defense objection. Trial assignment is on 2/26  and jury trial on 3/1.

Due to COVID 19, some jury trials had been reset. There has been previous and recent coverage explaining that with the purple tier, only one jury trial can proceed at a time. The local courts and lack of space is creating a backlog and trial assignment continued through lunch today.

There was also reference to a court order and extension of criminal jury trials granred by the CA Chief Justice for Humboldt. Many attorneys had not seen this recent order yet.

Tsarnas withdrew his time waiver at the last hearing.

Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees is the prosecutor for the case. DA Maggie Fleming appeared on the case today. Deputy Conflict Counsel April Van Dyke is Tsarnas' attorney.
