Shantaram Laurence Jones arrested by Eureka Police Department yesterday for PC 451 (b), arson. Bail is $75,000.
EPD Crime Analyst Brittany Powell told me, "On April 5th at about 5:30 p.m., Jones was arrested after setting items on fire inside of a hospital bathroom. The fire was quickly put out by Jones once an employee found him. The bathroom floor was damaged due to the fire."
If hospitals are on lock down, and I know Mad River is, how did he get in?

You are making a lot of assumptions. The county's shelter in place did not go into effect until midnight March 19, 2020. He could have been in the hospital prior to that date. The details of his arrest won't be known and usually are not until the preliminary hearing. He is being arraigned this afternoon which hasn't happened yet.Mental illness and the complex issues you raise have nothing to do with the fact that he is a danger to himself and the public. To say there is no help shows a bias on your part. I am not getting into a discussion about mental health. I also need to get back to covering his arraignment which is only available via livestream. There is currently no access to court records or the Courthouse, if I miss the livestream.
