Like her politics or not, AOC's remarks about Cuomo also apply to Newsom and California

Governor Gavin Newsom could and should have suspended AB5; he has not. Governor Newsom needs to prove by actions not words that he represents all the people.  He doesn't just represent Los Angeles, San Francisco and wealthier, urban counties but all of California. Supplies, tests, funding all impact the decisions local jurisdictions make.

Regardless of politics, instead of daily soundbytes  and patting themselves on the back, state and national leaders need to admit they bungled handling the response to this pandemic and in a timely fashion. Conflicting messages about how COVID 19 can be transmitted is not helping quell fear and panic. While everyone is financially affected by COVID 19, some are more than others.

Several media reports published certain commenta made by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
during an appearance on WNYC’s “The Brian Lehrer Show” on Tuesday.

Representative Ocasio- Cortez said Governor Andrew Cuomo’s decision to suspend mortgage payments but not rental payments during the coronavirus outbreak, is giving “preferential treatment” to wealthier New Yorkers.

“If you called for a suspension or moratorium on mortgage payments, then we should also call for that same treatment on rent payments,”

“We’re kind of creating a class and race issue. We’re essentially rewarding and offering preferential treatment to landowners and folks who are more wealthy, and we’re not offering that same kind of relief to renters."

She said the essential workers who can't stay home -- the delivery drivers, grocery store workers and food preparers — "are overwhelmingly lower-income.
"If you are able to stay home. You are a privileged person in this moment."
