Even Markis Shirley's attorney was not surprised that he did not show up for court, again

Disposition and reset for Markis Shirley was scheduled this morning. The court did not order him released on February 14. Shirley keeps being released and keeps getting arrested.

He was released over the weekend by the jail to parole. This morning no one was surprised he did not show up. Even his attorney, Deputy Public Defender Luke Brownfield was surprised he was not in custody.

A bench of $50,000 was issued in one case. A bench warrant for $5,000 was issued in another case. It is a no cite and release. Bond forfeited in both cases.

Judge Lawrence Killoran was even willing to recall the warrant if Shirley was running late.
Mr. Brownfield checked the hallway.

"I would like to say he will show up but I am not so confident about that," said Mr. Brownfield.

  1. Release on own recog is a failed system and needs to be scraped entirely. The courts in Humboldt have to be the laughing stock examples of liberal lunacy gone wrong. I don't think this person will be difficult to find if out in public due to his abnormal appearance. Come on judges-do something good for once so the public feels proud!
