Press Release:
On 02/24/2019, at approximately 0140 hours, CHP received information that a Toyota 4Runner, occupied by a 3 year old child passenger, had been stolen from the intersection of Howard Street and SR-162.
At approximately 0217 hours, the vehicle was observed by a Mendocino County Sheriff's Deputy on SR-162, near mile marker 4 and a traffic stop was conducted. CHP arrived on scene and the driver was detained. The child was located, unharmed, secured in a child seat. The vehicle and the child were returned.
The driver was taken into custody for suspicion of kidnapping, child endangerment, vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, driving while under the influence of combined drugs and alcohol, driving with a suspended driver license and violation of probation.
The CHP would like to thank Mendocino County Sheriff's Office and Round Valley Tribal Police for their assistance with this investigation.
