Charlie Kangas waives prelim, defense makes offer of 6 years in prison to resolve cases

Charlie Kangas and Deputy Public Defender Casey Russo talked for quite a while this morning, in court.

The result was the Kangas waiving his right to a preliminary hearing for his most recent arrest.

Deputy District Attorney Josh Rosenfeld told Visiting Judge Joseph Hurley that the defense had conveyed an offer of 6 years in prison to resolve Kangas' cases. Three years of that prison sentence would be for PC 254 (a) 1, assault with a deadly weapon.

While the People were agreeable to that offer, Kangas wants time to talk to his father and the DA's office wants to talk to the alleged victims.

For now arraignment on information is scheduled for April 26 at 8:30 a.m.in Courtroom 2.
