Fulton County Sherriff’s Deputies and the U.S. Marshals Service are leading the search for a murder defendant who fled an Atlanta courthouse Friday before a guilty verdict was read.
Verlaine Laguerre, 26, fled the Fulton County courthouse during the lunch break. The victim, Matthew Hardeman, was shot more than 50 times.
Laguerre, was out of custody on bond. While out on release, Laguerre was arrested on weapons and manufacturing marijuana charges.
A jury found him and his co-defendant guilty of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Laguerre and his co-defendant were both sentenced to life in prison plus 5 years.
