Surveilance video helps law enforcement arrest Alfredo Vega in what may be a gang related crime
On April 28, 2018, at about 5:10 p.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department responded to the intersection of Wabash Avenue and B Street for the report of an unknown male firing a handgun from a silver Ford Focus.
Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle, witnesses, or any involved parties. A small caliber expended shell casing was located.
Surveillance from the area was obtained and showed a male firing one shot from a silver Ford Focus into a nearby tree. The male suspect left the scene in the vehicle. The vehicle license plate was obtained from the surveillance and a countywide be on the lookout was issued.
At about 7:54 p.m., deputies from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office located the silver Ford Focus parked on the 2400 block of Hillside Drive in Eureka.
EPD officers responded to the location and assisted in locating the involved suspect (20 year old Alfredo Vega). Vega was contacted outside of a residence and matched the description of the shooter.
A search of the residence located two loaded firearms. One of the firearms matched the caliber of the shell casing located at the scene. Gang paraphernalia connected to Vega was also located.
Vega was taken into custody and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for negligent discharge of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, and carrying a loaded firearm in public while not the registered owner and while an active gang participant.
