San Louis Obispo Superior Court Judge consders fining state hospital for backlog

Fed up with the amount of time County Jail inmates declared not competent to stand trial have been waiting for treatment at a state hospital, a San Luis Obispo Superior Court judge is considering fining the state over the backlog.

Judge Ginger Garrett has scheduled a hearing on May 10. The Department of State Hospitals to show cause why it shouldn't face sanctions for refusing to accept the inmates.

Judge Garrett could find the agency in contempt of court and fine the state $1,500 per violation if she finds the agency has the ability but is unwilling to accept them as patients."

  1. Didn't anyone see the No Vacancy at the front door. Humboldt alone has had how many not competent to stand trial ? If your competent enough to kill someone or beat someone or steal from someone you're competent enough to stand trial.
