This is the problem with "gag" orders in Humboldt County, they make getting information in a small town very difficult

I submitted a public records request.

This is the response I received from the County regarding my public records request regarding the following individuals.

I understand the need for "gag" orders but the four men listed above are not minors, there is pending litigation against the County, these four men all made headlines when they were arrested. In Humboldt just requesting a "gag" order is enough, Humboldt Judges always grant them and they are broad.

If it is a part of an ongoing criminal case, why was I not able to find a record in the system? I checked right after this agenda item for a few days.  Even with gag orders in the criminal case,  why can't the public know what the pending litigation against the County is about, in general?

Taxpayers will foot the bill so who do the Judges work for? There is zero information available so how do we know that the public's right to know was considered.

The request was after I did two posts. One on the agenda item below:

Conference with Legal Counsel - pursuant to Government Code Section 54956.9, subd. (d)(2) regarding pending litigation: Micah Keyes-Anderson, Andrew Barnes, William Woods, and Alvin Wingo v. County of Humboldt.

The other was about the Assessor's office.

Elena Susmilch is an employee at the Humboldt County Assessor's office who has not been at the office since August.
