I waited ten days to report on this case and decided to do so for many reasons.
I rarely report on traffic cases but there are some that are newsworthy. Ellanor ElvineKreis, is the daughter of former ousted Humboldt Superior Court judge Gregory Kreis. He resigned as a part of a deal with the Commission on Judicial Performance and made national headlines. He also lost the last election "bigly" despite support from the good ole boys and gals of Humboldt and Humboldt Superior Court. Ellanor ElvineKreis chose to endorse her father and was in the news during that election cycle. There were people who specifically talked about Ellanor ElvineKreis in anonymous online forums during that election. The anons and online cesspool where facts don't matter and anyone is game.
Mr. Kreis represented his daughter in court for the traffic case. Mr. Kreis made a choice to stay and practice in Humboldt Superior Court as an attorney, where his wife works, despite both being mentioned in CJP documents. He made the choice to accept to be an attorney for court appointments in Humboldt Superior Court. The rates and budget for court appointed attorneus was an agenda item discussed yesterday at the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors meeting and in my Saturday pre post on that topic, I discuss specifically why his being on the court appointed attorney panel deserves transparency. I have written before about the cost of Mr. Kreis' choice to practice in Humboldt Superior Court.
Mr. Kreis has been assigned many of Ms. Andrea Sullivan's former cases since she is now primarily working in Southern California. Unfortunately, this means I have to see him more often at the courthouse. I have been reporting on those cases prior to him taking over. Locals and regular readers are aware that I covered Mr. Kreis for years before the CJP press releases and filing of formal proceedings with other local media ignoring any coverage and slow to cover the CJP proceeding even after it made regional and national headlines.
For months, Mr. Kreis' cases had to be set before a Visiting Judge. That costs extra money. Then some special sets before Humboldt Superior Court Presiding Judge Neel who denied Aunna Bollman release on July 10; without prejudice.
On 8/1/25, Visiting Judge Ksenia Tsenin denied Gregory Kreis' motion in the Cotc Lincoln case. I was shocked because with a few exceptions, Judge Tsenin has ruled in Mr. Kreis' favor.
On 8/1/25, Judge Steven Steward denied Mr. Kreis' motion for mental health diversion for Jackson Parrott and that was the correct decision given Parrott's criminal record.
On 8/11/25, Commissioner Sarah Kaber made a disclosure but did not recuse herself. She found Ellanor ElvineKreis guilty. Court records for the traffic case are posted below.
Court minutes and records for other three cases are included in my coverage of those cases.
Mr. Kreis got assigned to the Sergio Frias case yesterday because both Public Defender and Conflict Counsel have conflicts. Judge Kaleb Cockrum who has worked with him previously and previously recused himself, made a disclosure yesterday but heard the case.
9/5/25: Preliminary hearing in both 2025 cases continued defense to 10/1. DA motion to amend complaint granted.
