**Court coverage of this case has graphic language due to nature of alleged charges. Your choice to read beyond this point**
**The media request says I cannot take photos of victims, witnesses or court staff. It says nothing about attorneys or DA staff or other media. Jones is being brought in before courtroom opens so it makes it further difficult to take photos because he is already seated. I have cropped Zoom screen to meet Judge Canning's conditions but pictured on that Zoom screen are Deputy DA Rees, DA InvestigatorMartin Morris, Ms. O'Connell and Jones, media and DA Victim Witness Advocate M.H. I spoke with DA Morris and DA Victim Witness Advocate M.H. before posting this photo. For now, I am only using the DA Victim Witness Advocate's initials even though her name maybe in a future press release.
Day 2 of terroristic and criminal threat suspect Daryl Jones' preliminary hearing started with testimony from Arcata Police Officer Jaime Lewallen who previously worked with HCSO and Yurok Tribal Police Department. You can tell Officer Lewallen's 30 plus years of law enforcement from her testimony.
64 calls from five different phone numbers were made to North Point Consulting. On February 28, APD Officer Lewallen spoke with Tristen Draper.
"What up bitch? You know who this is; look outside." Male voice on February 28 was the same caller who called North Point Consulting on February 21.
Also on the same day Officer Lewallen responded to North Point Consulting Group, later she was dispatched to Arcata High School spoke with Michelle Camilli.
"What would you do if I came over and beat your ass?" said the caller. Again, the name "Jeremiah" used by male caller.
Humboldt Brews received 9 calls in one hour. Officer Lewalken testified male caller told Amanda Arthington, "he wanted to murder her, no need to call the cops, he would follow her home."
Humboldt Superior Court Judge Timothy Canning has been assigned this preliminary hearing. Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees is the prosecutor. Conflict Counsel Supervising Attorney Meagan O'Connell is representing Jones.
As I mentioned in my coverage yesterday, except for one reference to an APD investigation, most law enforcement testified about a male caller. I am guessing testimony by other officers will identify the caller as Jones. The phone numbers stated on court record are Deputy DA Rees establishing more evidence and probably connecting them to Jones in future testimony.
As I also mentioned yesterday, there are details and quotes in court documents I provided in prior coverage.
Darius Jones, a family member and Sharnice Cross, Daryl Jones' sister were on Zoom. They exited after Ms. O'Connell explained they maybe potential witnesses. Darius Jones was told yesterday by Judge Timothy Canning that witnesses and potential witnesses were excluded. Ms. O'Connell had to explain to him today was a continuation of the preliminary hearing. This hearing may continue to tomorrow.
10:45 a.m: Additional documents were just provided to defense. Preliminary hearing continued to 1:30 p.m.
1:40 p.m.: Additional reports I mentioned in my morning post led to Daryl Jones' preliminary hearing being continued to 1:30 today. At 1:40, there are 23 additional reports in the APD case with additional alleged victims and locations. DA plans to amend and file more charges.
Ms. O'Connell needs to do a conflict check. After speaking with Jones, she requested a continuance. Due to her schedule, preliminary hearing continued to October 20 and 21. Jones waived his right to a continuous hearing.
Mr. Rees said that APD had prepared these reports in April but DA's office did not get them until two weeks ago. Mr. Rees didn't see the reports until this morning and he provided them to Ms. O'Connell this morning. Mr. Rees apologized to court staff.
