Several incidents on E street near Hillsdale yesterday, including this car at midnight that could have caused an accident

12:40 a.m. this morning, was woken by car was driving backwards on Hillsdale. The car was closer to Hillsdale and E  streets and honking but would drive backwards towards C. This happened a few times.

I couldn't figure out whether the car was parking, it would stop and then it would move forward like it was driving off towards E.

When I was getting ready to call Eureka Police Department, another car approached from C, the first car pulled over, let that car go and then drove off towards 12th and E at 12:50 a.m.

There is an arrest by EPD at 12:50 a.m. for public intoxication but at this time, I do not know if it is the same driver in the pictures. That arrest for drunk in public is not based on what I found out from EPD and talking with people in the area and my building who heard the disturbance. A woman and man were fighting in the parking lot near the public housing project.

Yesterday evening, I had to call EPD to check something out on Clark and Hillsdale which was likely from the public housing project on the corner that has constant issues. The EPD officer followed up with a phone call. Fortunately, things were safe and quieter later and the officer checked the area..

Yesterday I did this post. Twice, in the morning and afternoon, I saw three EPD cars on E street near Clark, no sirens. I was told it was an ongoing investigation and a press release would be issued. I followed up with EPD and was told to reach out tomorrow to Commander Wayne Rabang or Commander Leonard LaFrance by EPD PIO Laura Montagna. I have contacted both this morning and heard back from Commander Rabang.

Commander Rabang told me, "The one at 12:40 was the 647(f) PC, about the same time there was a 415 at Winco.  Nothing about the silver car that was reported, that could’ve been a random occurrence.  Yesterday morning is still an ongoing investigation involving our Investigations Unit and patrol responding to assist.  The afternoon was patrol units responding to assist for an uncooperative subject, but when they arrived on scene, the male cooperated with the units that requested backup."

Commander LaFrance also responded, "The incident you are asking about is in regards to an active investigation being conduct by our Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU). Due to the integrity of the investigation, we are not releasing any details as of yet. However, once we have an investigative conclusion on this, we should be able to provide more information.

I know that's not necessarily helpful from the news front, but we want to make sure we conduct the best investigation possible without hurting the case."
