HCSO releases names of three deputies on leave in Glendale shooting

I had already mentioned deputies were on leave when I first reported on the OIS. I was also the first one to include the suspect's criminal record but I do that with all crime posts regularly and have for 11 years. Of the three deputies, I know two of them from covering the courts and one of them Deputy Eckert was formerly at EPD.

HCSO released an update this morning to the Glendale OIS shooting that occurred on July 26, 2025, in the 1300 block of Glendale Drive.

The deputies involved in the incident have been identified as:

• Deputy Jonathan Eckert, with nine years of law enforcement experience

• Deputy Cole Kane, with six years of law enforcement experience

• Deputy Russell Hurley, with nine years of law enforcement experience .

All three deputies remain on paid administrative leave, per standard protocol.

The forensic autopsy for the decedent, Jared Randell Nelson, is still pending.
