Hunter Taula-Sanson was arrested yesterday by HCSO for PC 664/187(a) attempted murder, PC 245(a)(4) assault with a firearm, PC 422(a) criminal threats , PC 417(a)(1) brandishing a weapon and PC 594(b)(2)(a) vandalism.
Jail said he was booked on no bail this morning; however when I followed up, HCSO told me he had set bail. I called the jail back and a different staff person said that there had been a change and his bail was $500,000.
I reached out to HCSO Lt. Jesse Taylor. He told me HCSO PIO Erin Inskip is working on a press release and she sent me the following response to my other question.
"A press release will be released today regarding the arrest of Hunter Taula-Sanson. As far as the No Bail is concerned I am looking into that." Minutes later, she emailed me, "Hi John, I checked with the jail and no bail information was incorrect and he has a set bail amount."
8/21/25: Arraigned on two felonies and three misdemeanors. Count 1 PC 245(a)(4) assault with a firearm; Count 2 PC 422 criminal threats; Count 3 PC 417 (a) (1) brandishing a weapon other than a firearm; a knife. Count 4 and 5 vandalism. Bail $40,000; Public Defender appointed. Alleged victim Leilani Taula-Sanson.
8/25/25: OR bail alleged victim on Zoom addresses Court about Taula-Sanson's custodial status, Deputy DA Brandon Boozari appeared on the case for the People; Public Defender Luke Brownfield for Taula-Sanson. Supervised release granted by Judge Kaleb Cockrum. 9/3 date vacated. Preliminary hearing scheduled for 10/14.
10/14/25: Preliminary hearing continued by defense to 1/7/26.
HCSO Press Release (issued 12:23 p.m 8/20/25.):
On Aug.19, 2025 at about 9:27 p.m. Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 1900 block of Strawberry Ct. in McKinleyville for the report of an attempted homicide.
The Humboldt County Emergency Communications Center received a series of text messages to 9-1-1 stating a male subject inside the residence was physically assaulting and attempting to stab his mother and had started a fire.
When deputies arrived on scene, a young male adult was observed exiting the residence with his hands raised above his head and he was immediately detained. Based on the witness and victim statements, 18-year-old, Hunter Taula-Sanson, of Waianae, Hawaii was arrested. He was transported the Humboldt County Correctional Facility (HCCF) and booked on the following charges: P.C. 664/187(A)-Attempted Homicide, P.C. 245(A)(4)-Assault with a Deadly Weapon, P.C. 422(A)-Criminal Threats, P.C. 594(A)(2)-Felony Vandalism and P.C.417(A)(1) Brandishing a Deadly Weapon.
This case is still under investigation.
