With a few exceptions on FB who are people who also read my blog; it is mostly blog readers who can't handle facts and court records about them or someone they know.
With a few exceptions in Humboldt, I saw the future of media over a decade ago and the influence of what is now considered new media.
Read the rest of the post or don't read it; people see who supports independent reporting and that I am someone who is trying to make a difference in this community and they also see the retaliation, the challenges and obstacles I face and they are Humboldt specific.
I have already made changes that are in my best interest financially and personally and will continue to make more soon.
The last few elections have shown the people trust me and my reporting. One of the reasons they do is because they have experienced what I write and have suffered and mistreated by the same people. Before this blog, I worked on many successful campaigns and contributed to those victories because the community relates to someone who is genuine.
Those who are in charge or want power again can continue pouting, gossiping behind my back or act like adults, take responsibility for mistreating me and the wrongs they have done, fix what they put me through or not; I am focusing my time and efforts to continue improving the community I live in currently and work with leaders, lawyers and business owners who are positive and want Humboldt to prosper. I have survived so far despite every obstacle thrown at me. Those who are loyal to me patronize your businesses; they are voters who determine elections and they are people who reflect this community better than the few of you preventing Humboldt from moving forward.
These images and posts are directed at my Humboldt haters, trolls, attackers aka "biggest fans." They don't like and bad mouth me but they read me. I laugh when others also mention that to me. Most of the negative people commenting locally online have no power, no influence, they are the same tired, irrelevant groupies I have seen commenting for two decades and their clique on the "local" forum is irrelevant to power, elections or business.
People making business deals and spending money are offline. Those who win elections don't make decisions based on online chatter. They have lives offline, are vacationing, dining out and having conversations in real life, including with me because they are free from peer pressure and the Humboldt clique mentality.
I post live. Some posts require updates; some posts are lengthy. The blog is where the details are. Court coverage is the most time consuming. It is also the most challenging, stressful and costs me in many ways. Factors beyond my control which can be fixed have remained the same for decades. I am already updating subscribers and contributors first and more changes are on the way. Today, I was going to start updating a week worth of posts. Then, an all day Verizon outage.
The positive of that "inconvenience" and "loss of income" today was it was a stress free day. No moderating comments; no ungrateful trolls. I got to walk, relax, visit with people I have not seen for a while. Those who have escaped the toxicity of the Courthouse or as I prefer to call it the "den of evil."
Most people aren't paying me, the workload from covering court cases is increasing and the agita is Humboldt specific and mostly from the blog readers. Views and traffic matter. Other platforms work better for live and brief updates. Details work better here and that takes time; especially when you are sitting in a courtroom all day; covering multiple courtrooms and providing court minutes.
The people who are ungrateful and do not give me the credit and respect I deserve for very unique and detailed court coverage can wait another three days or a week for updates on court cases. I plan to take some much needed time off for me next week and I will still post and report but I am not in a rush to write about continuances and insignificant updates.
Many more in Humboldt can start subscribing or contributing. No more reminders. More changes are on the way to benefit those who read and support me. As for the others; you can just wait and see when you won't have access to the scoops; the exclusives and all the extras you feel entitled for free.
Most Humboldt "news" is of interest to Humboldt. There is no money to be made in Humboldt because people are cheap or broke and those who have money are petty and lack vision to support real talent due to their fragile egos and because they want control.
The good in Humboldt can be highlighted whether I am here or somewhere else. If I wasn't constantly dealing with the same negativity that destroys anyone trying to move Humboldt into the 21st century; I could focus more on the positive, talented people and lawyere here who are also not appreciated or respected.
Unlike others who have been around for decades and won't move on to allow new voices to emerge; I am not still here for my ego. It is survival and being stuck here because of the cost, harm, betrayal by Humboldt. Others can still be writing 20 years later about the same old Rob Arkley vs the City of Eureka, another protest against any industry that offers jobs badly needed in Humboldt; I prefer new and relevant news. Nothing will change in Humboldt as long as the old guard is in charge and the same negative attitude towards new ideas and "outsiders." Economics are already bringing change to Humboldt but it is slow.
For those who want to see me leave, you can make that happen sooner; make amends, compensate me for the wrongdoing, apologize and give me the credit I deserve. I am trapped here as are many others and struggling due to your actions and poor choices. Unlike other "locals"; I can build a business, media source or whatever I chose anywhere. No business continues to invest and lose money. For those of you who feel like you can walk up and say,"Hey Chiv", go ask all those questions, get help or call those you financially and personally support instead of me.
As long as there are attempts by those here to silence those practicing their First Amendment rights and any media who speaks up for the people who cannot or won't, there is a need for this blog. I write and express what others go through. A blog is just a style, blogspot is a free domain. Did you give me the $ and resources and support you give other local media for decades who don't have the daily original content I do, I could get a dot com. That does not mean anything. There are other "local media" who are blogs and full of fluff and press releases and content by people who have never been journalists. I have worked in "traditional media." Other local media couldn't handle the needy, the retaliation, the challenges I endure daily; let alone for 11 years and put out the same content I do. I have just a cell phone and grit. What is the money and resources they have provide?
Political activism is not news. Like everything else, it may appeal to Humboldt who is decades behind in reality. The results of the 2024 election are proof that readers spoke with their votes. Independent voters play an important part in elections and most independent voters like me are not from extreme views or beholden to any party or individual.
I have already started prioritizing and providing customized, one on one updates for former or current advertisers, current subscribers and contributors. The rest of you who have plenty of questions, demands and especially those who do not read posts; start reading and start paying for the news and service I provide or don't expect anything extra. My content is free. There is no paywall.
"Corporate, legacy, mainstream media" has failed the people. I saw the future of digital media and watchdog journalism long before it has become where people go for their news. Those in Humboldt who dismiss me can't argue against the facts and court records. They don't call out other media for opinions. They just want me to stop reporting what other media ignores. If people want a free press and freedom of speech and Humboldt news; every single one of you needs to speak up or even quietly support me. I have been your voice and helped you when you needed it most and suffered financial, social and other consequences.
Blogs and other new and digital media are interactive. Others talk with their readers and viewers just like I am in this style. Those who don't get it need to start living in the 21st century and realize who the people trust and why.
