This is from cad.chp.ca.gov as of 1:58 p.m. on 8/10/25. No one answered the main CHP Humboldt line on a Sunday and I don't expect PIOS or admin staff to work on weekends.
As for reports elsewhere that Humboldt County Sherriff is looking for a suspect, I reached out to HCSO Lt. Jesse Taylor to confirm if that is the case and that is not correct. Even though it is a Sunday, he responded and is looking into the incident. He got back to me on Monday, "was informed that CalFire is the lead agency on this incident. I don't have any further details. "
I contacted Humboldt CHP PIO Paul Craft on Monday, 8/11. Mr. Craft responded, "Sorry, I have no information related to this incident. If it is being investigated by HCSO, I would continue to reach out to their department."
I have other news and court cases that keep me busy. The PIOs and law enforcement are also busy. The other local media that ran with incomplete and inaccurate information that HCSO was looking for a suspect can follow up with CALFire. I already spent enough time getting correct information .
