Driver arrested for DUI in Hill Road collision

On August 8, 2020, at approximately 0145 hours, a 2016 Mazda CX5 was being driven westbound on Hill Road, east of Dobie Lane.

For reasons still under investigation, the driver allowed the vehicle to run off the road and collide with a large oak tree.  Nearby residents assisted the injured occupants out of the Mazda as it erupted into flames.  All occupants of the vehicle suffered moderate to major injuries as a result of the collision and were transported to various northern California hospitals.

Upon being transported to Howard Memorial Hospital, the driver (Milton Hoaglen) of the Mazda was arrested for suspicion of DUI (causing injury). The California Highway Patrol, Covelo Volunteer Fire Department, Laytonville Volunteer Fire Department, Cal Fire, Med-Star Air Ambulance, REACH Air Ambulance, and  Cal-Star Air Ambulance all responded to this collision.  This collision remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol - Garberville
