Loureiro pleads guilty to second degree murder

Murder suspect Ronald Loureiro entered a plea in his homicide case just now.

Loureiro pleaded guilty to Count 1 for second degree murder and admitting the "nickel prior" which adds an additional five years to his term.

California law adds on a five-year penalty enhancement for anyone convicted of a serious felony, if they already have a prior conviction for a serious felony.

People dismissed the child abuse charges in Counts 2, 3 and 4 with a Harvey reservation.

The sentence for second degree murder is 15 years to life. The nickel prior adds an additional five years to his term.

Loureiro could be eligible for parole in 20 years, according to Deputy District Attorney Trent Timm.

Loureiro's attorney is Deputy Conflict Counsel Owen Tipps.

In addition to the 2018 homicide case, Loureiro has two cases from 2019 and one from 2017. The 2019 misdemeanor cases were dismissed by the People.

Loureiro's plea resulted in a violation of probation for his 2017 misdemeanor case. Probation was terminated. Judge Wilson said "any time on that case will run concurrently."

Sentencing is on September 9.

Mr. David Nims represents victim Jackie Carter and two minor victims.
