Reporting is information and bringing news that matters

Tech issues with court livestream have improved. There are less audio livestream issues and improvement in other  concerns which have only been covered on my blog. Prior to these, tech issues were interfering with coverage and viewing.

There are safe ways to allow media access to court records without compromising safety. I suggested one person be designated from each local media outlet and be allowed some access to court records, even if it was remotely.

The clerk's office recently opened. How many times did I bring that up? Other media benefits from my persistence but they sit silent and never put in the work to bring about change. My coverage is effective.

It was obvious from some of Judge Hinrichs remarks that observations made on my blog are read by those in charge. I know from various feedback that this is true for the City and County. That is what makes my blog effective. It is read by elected officials, business owners, community members that matter and actually patronize businesses. Many people read and prefer not to comment.

People do recognize me. They comment; sometimes it is positive; sometimes it is not. I am the only one to have my contact information out there. Takes guts, especially in a small, rural town where a lot of people have no concept of what is news or boundaries. Besides the reporters on TV, you have desk pushers who just play musical chairs between the same few outlets reporting from behind a desk with very little original coverage. No one besides your little clique and funders knows who you are or cares what you write. You take zero risk and after being around for decades andyou haven't made a dent in the same ole attitude and corruption.

Whether it is the impact on quality of life and crime in a neighborhood or information about challenges at the CA EDD, I report news impacting the average person.

These issues are being raised by media in Los Angeles and San Francisco and other places and they are needed here. There aren't the resources and organizations here that towns and cities have.

Comments do not equal views. Reporting views from the same anonymous people multiple times is not working and doesn't get people into your business. They are too busy online.

People with an axe to grind and people into Facebook drama are not my readers. I moderate comments. I will ban violations even if affects my likes. Besides, likes are not any indication that people are reading what you write.

Reporting is not ignoring news, reporting is not based on popularity and reporting is doing your job despite being bullied. In this small, rural town, you dont want me to write  your family and friends or think your version matters; not facts. That is not reporting.

What local Public Health or the local courts or any other local government employee doesn't get, especially the overpaid government heads, is that their lives have not been impacted financially. They have been paid despite the pandemic. What Governor Newsom and Public Health have done is endanger the financial well being and mental health of private citizens, residents and  working people who were barely surviving before the COVID 19 pandemic.

The numbers have never added up locally to the doom and gloom by Public Health. There have been double standards in what is enforced.

While I sympathize with the landlords with one or two properties, I don't want to hear from local property management companies, landlords and slumlords with several properties whining about the eviction moratorium or laws passed to protect the people suffering most right now.

When interviewed by media, property management companies said their rents were being paid or there was not a significant effect on their income.

You all have the money to pay lawyers and legal organizations to lobby and sue the CA Judicial Council and pressure legislators; you are not suffering. You are  greedy bullies.

If you are making an income through private or public work and posting Facebook pictures of your vacations or living online 24/7 commenting about meaningless chatter and your biggest problem is having to order door dash instead of eating out; you aren't affected by this pandemic.

Have you seen the recent press releases by Public Health. Do we really need reminding to check on seniors? When Public Health is asked about reopening in media availibility, they have no idea about anything that people need to know to plan their lives and earn income.

PPP loans and CA EDD are a disaster. California cuts off certain people from making money but still wants bills and taxes paid. We have very few elected officials championing for the people.

Besides news you can read from the state or national news outlets or press releases, what news are most local media outlets reporting right now that matters to people and their basic need to survive? Information like the clerk's office opening which impacts domestic violence survivors and other urgent issues is the kind of information needed right now.

In other communities across the country, neighbors are helping each other. In Humboldt, how many of you have reached out and done something for a stranger; even someone you may not like. I also don't see Christians stepping up and living the gospel.

Reporting is information and bringing news that matters and has a practical impact on people's daily life. Reporting is having an impact in exposing corruption and entrenched systems in a rural, small town that has never been held accountable for the way they treat people inconvenient to them or who aren't in their self serving clique.

COVID 19 has changed a lot. Humboldt demographics are and will change, it isn't going to be the same old attitude or petty people stifling competition forever. My readers are all over California and the country. They are your present and future voters, clients and business owners.

And trust me, they are paying attention to the challenges of independent reporting and what I write.
