Criminal proceedings suspended in murder suspect Gearold Sotolongo's case



Criminal proceedings were suspended in murder suspect Gearold Sotolongo's case this morning after Deputy Public Defender Brie Bennett "declared doubt" about his mental competency. Judge Lawrence Killoran appointed Dr. Ramirez to evaluate Sotolongo.

Sotolongo also requested a Marsden motion and that hearing is scheduled for March 7 wgen his attorney, Deputy Public Defender Luke Brownfield is back in town.

 A Marsden motion is a hearing requested by a criminal defendant to fire a court-appointed attorney.

Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees agreed with the defense regarding doubt about Sotolongo' competency to stand trial. Status of Dr. Ramirez's report is scheduled for March 7.
