Marci Kitchen brought into courtroom, she turned her face away from the audience

(HCSO)

Dressed in blue, with no makeup on, cuffed, Marci Kitchen was brought into the courtroom this morning. The only one there to support her was Mel Pearlston, Josh Pearlston's father.

She turned her face away, told her attorney, "I don't want..." and then she was taken out of the courtroom. Since Marci Kitchen has a 977 waiver of personal appearance on file, her attorney can appear on her behalf.

Marci Kitchen will have to be present at sentencing on September 18.

Marci Kitchen had already surrendered yesterday "voluntarily"  said her attorney, Conflict Counsel's Supervising Attorney Meagan O'Connell. Today, Judge Cockrum ordered her remanded without bail.

Judge Kaleb Cockrum went over rules for  sentencing, who can speak. He said those allowed to speak will be according to the law. "This is not a town meeting, it is a court proceeding.,"

Judge Cockrum will only allow one still camera and one video in the courtroom to cover sentencing but there are restrictions. Only Marci Kitchen and her attorney can be photographed.

The electronic media coverage was granted over the defense's objection. Judge Cockrum did grant the request that while Marci Kitchen read her statement that she will not be photographed.

Judge Cockrum also addressed the procedure of public sending letters to him. He cannot read ex parte communication. Letters can be sent to the attorneys.

Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads asked if overflow crowd could be seated in the Board of Supervisor Chambers and the proceedings be broadcast in the BOS chambers.
DA Maggie Fleming, DA Chief Investigstor Wayne Cox and DA Investigator Kyla Baxley attended today's court hearing.

Today's hearing was the first time there was any mention that there had been threats made against Marci Kitchen snd her supporters. This was mentioned by Ms. O'Connell when she opposed electronic media at sentencing.
