This case made the headlines and the media was all over the initial arrest.
Today, at the preliminary hearing, the only other media to show up was Times Standard but Dan Squier was not even there all the time in court. And he left early.
Arrests make the headlines but investing time into facts that come out in court and during the judicial process takes time and dedication. Not covering a case here and there, not printing press releases.
Sexual abuse cases are very difficult to cover emotionally. And the ones that aren't high profile get the same time and dedication on this blog.
Testimony today revealed that Jane Doe #4 dad knew about the alleged molestation for years and did not prevent the girls from visiting and being with Cunningham. There were questions raised about what other adults knew and when.
During the defense cross examination of Investigator Peterson, the defense said that Stephen Simpson owed money to Andrew Cunningham and Karen Cunningham and that "Mrs. Cunningham bailed Stephen Simpson out of jail." There was a reference made by defense to "a shooting in Fields Landing."
None of this suggests that the alleged molestation did not occur.
How thorough was the investigation that led to the charges?
Based on the previous drama in the courtroom by some of the adults connected to the alleged victims, the reaction to my truthful reporting today on today's preliminary hearing from a few of the people attending court and a couple of people connected to people atending court, the continued behavior of some of the adults in the courtroom, the cross examination does raise some questions that deserve answers.
The allegations were not reported right away? Why? Besides Jane Doe #4's dad, were their other adults who knew?
I feel so sorry for all the four Jane Does and Cunningham's children because the adults in this case, and those who knew like Jane Doe #4's dad, let the children down.
