EPD Press Release:
On December 20, 2017 at about 9:05 p.m., an officer with the Eureka Police Department attempted a traffic stop on a Toyota Camry near Henderson and C Streets.
The officer observed the driver using a cell phone while operating the vehicle. The driver, later identified as 31 year old Eureka resident, Perry Bailey, failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.
Bailey failed to stop at several stop signs and his speeds reached approximately 50 miles per hour. Bailey ultimately stopped his vehicle near Harris and E Street and attempted to flee on foot.
Officers quickly ordered Bailey to the ground and he was taken into custody without further incident. Bailey was found to be in possession of over 6 grams of suspected heroin and nearly 2 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
Bailey was transported and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for reckless evading, possession of heroin and methamphetamine, and for multiple outstanding warrants.
