  1. Community is "not prepared?" What the heck does that mean?

  2. It means that we are the only county this far north left in this bill; the draw as being perceived as being even easier on drugs than we are already perceived would crush this county. We don't have the medical infrastructure to handle even more addicts, we don't have social services for more addicts, the businesses cannot handle more addicts driving away trade, and we do not need more addicts welcoming travelers on 101. If you want to know what happens to a town that lets a shooting gallery occur, look for news articles about Vancouvers Downtown Eastside. The only thing it has been proven to do is prevent overdose deaths in the immediate vicinity. That's it.

  3. Sounds like that we need to unify as a community to bring in more social services and medical infrastructure.

  5. Plain and simple 'it doesn't work' only attracts & enables disrespect for the community.

  6. The Opioid/Heroin Epidemic—State Senator Mike McGuire

McGuire said there will be a follow-up to last month’s well-attended and well-received town hall sometime in the new year — probably in the spring.

“[There’s] five times the overdose rate compared to the statewide average here in Humboldt County. Twice the death rate from opioid addictions here in Humboldt County compared to the rest of the state. And you take a look at the number of opioid prescriptions — off the charts compared to statewide average.

The last thing that we should be doing is going to our corners and yelling at each other. … Candidly, we have the worst drug-addiction crisis in our nation’s history, and the less time we spend talking with each other the larger this crisis is gonna grow. And I am deeply concerned about, in particular, rural California and the lack of resources we’ve had flow in.

Opioids absolutely serve a purpose when it comes to healing a body. The prescription numbers [in Humboldt County] have gone down, but they’re still way out of whack compared to the rest of the state, and that’s why I think we need to have some greater oversight.”

  7. I will not support any County Supervisor who refuses to sign this letter.

Marian Brady, how about sponsoring a similar letter for the Eureka City Council ?
