It is great to have a responsive Police Chief and police officers who give beyond what is required

Yesterday, I noticed an EPD officer driving around Old Town, past the library. Today, a different officer. This is a recent change on weekends.

I also noticed less people loitering around, harassing residents and others, especially between J street and the area near the library, especially on Second and Third Street. There are still campers and people hanging out but the usual troublemakers are not to be found.

It's not just the cold weather because that does not deter the "regulars". They still sit around texting on their cell phones, flipping people off, blowing smoke and throwing garbage. And screaming all hours of the night.

A month ago, I emailed Chief Watson and asked him what it would take to have an officer patrol Old Town on weekends, when Officer Cory Crnich was not around.  Budget and staffing I know is an issue. Chief Watson promptly responded with information. I never expected anything from that email. Others contacted EPD as well.

The officers I saw are doing regular patrols on days when Officer Crnich is not around.

Thank you EPD. Thank you Chief Watson.

Chief Watson is a quiet man. He takes action; he does not feel the need to broadcast every detail. I am so happy we have a local police Chief invested long term in the community he lives in and serves.

  1. Things have gotten a little better lately in the downtown, Court House areas. Thanks EPD.
