Bail set at one million, one hundred thousand for Hugo Parral-Aguirre

Bail set at one million, one hundred thousand for Hugo Parral-Aguirre. Retired Judge Bruce Watson set bail at one million dollars; $500,000 for each count of attempted murder.

Judge Watson initially blew off Deputy District Attorney Joshua Rosenfeld's request to set a separate bail amount for Count 4.

After Mr. Rosenfeld brought up the request again and cited Penal Code 1275 (c)., Judge Watson added the $100,000 amount. That bail amount had to be provided to him by Deputy DA Rosenfeld.

Aguirre came to court in a wheelchair. A court interpreter translated court proceedings for him. Deputy Public Defender Luke Brownfield was appointed to represent Aguirre. FMr. Brownfield said, "for now, we are asking for dates to be set on a "not time waived basis." Mr. Brownfield said he "reserves the right to ask for OR/Bail" in the future.

Intervention is on December 28. Preliminary hearing scheduled for January 3.

From CA legislative info site:

(c) Before a court reduces bail to below the amount established by the bail schedule approved for the county, in accordance with subdivisions (b) and (c) of Section 1269b, for a person charged with a serious felony, as defined in subdivision (c) of Section 1192.7, or a violent felony, as defined in subdivision (c) of Section 667.5, the court shall make a finding of unusual circumstances and shall set forth those facts on the record. For purposes of this subdivision, “unusual circumstances” does not include the fact that the defendant has made all prior court appearances or has not committed any new offenses.
