Juan "Manny" Ramirez is EPD's first Community Service Officer

Chief Steve Watson:

On December 5th, the Eureka City Council approved a number of position modifications and reorganization changes I requested for EPD in order to improve departmental efficiencies and operations, and to provide a higher level of customer service to our community.

This included the reallocation of two Community Services Officer positions (formerly classified as Police Services Officers).

Our new CSOs will once again handle many duties that fell to police officers and other professional staff when our PSO positions were eliminated due to budget shortfalls. The addition of these CSOs to our team will help free up our officers' time so they have more space to focus on proactive patrol, crime prevention and enforcement efforts, and community engagement.

I'm excited to announce that following our initial recruitment for this position, I had the privilege this morning to offer Juan "Manny" Ramirez a job as our first CSO. Manny will begin the field training program for his new assignment on February 1, 2018.

Manny is no stranger to EPD where he has worked as Police Records Specialist since July 2014.  He is also a former Humboldt County Sheriff's Office Correctional Officer and part-time Arcata Police Department PSO.  Manny is bilingual and he graduated from Humboldt State University with a B.A. Degree in Sociology.

Manny is respected and admired by his EPD friends and family who would describe him as hardworking, loyal, friendly, considerate, and very committed to his department and community.  Over the past 3 years, I've known Manny to consistently be one of those model employees who constantly asks what else he can do to help his team (such as volunteering to help repaint many of EPD's offices and hallways, and actively participating in many of our community events and fundraisers).

When you see Manny out and about, be sure to congratulate him on his new job!  EPD is lucky to have him and so are you.

EPD anticipates opening an additional recruitment for our second CSO position within the next 2-3 months for those who are interested.
